With its second season starting tonight (3/10/19), American Gods is the show you are probably missing out on and no one really talks about. The Game of Thrones countdown started a year ago and is nearly approaching, meanwhile the small screen adaptation of Neil Gaiman‘s hit American Gods is rarely the topic of conversation. With a high production level, and broadcast on the Starz network, American Gods is an intriguing take on the origins of Gods and their manifestations in the world. Every episode peels back a layer and takes you deeper into the power of worship and even puts a modern spin on the concept. Enlisting some powerful actors to play even more powerful roles, Gaiman’s work is brought to life on a channel that doesn’t need to censor his vision. The concept and execution is truly amazing and will have you hooked the minute your mind grasps the depth that this premise achieves.

With veteran actors like Ian McShane (Mr. Wednesday), Crispin Glover (Mr. World), Corbin Bernsen (Vulcan), and Pablo Schreiber (Mad Sweeny), American Gods is able to hold the heavy weight of such an intense concept.
Ricky Whittle (Shadow Moon) is somewhat new to the scene and is great for his role (and is easy on the eyes for the ladies), while his counterpart Emily Browning (Laura Moon) isn’t great in this, but makes up for Sucker Punch. With many well known actors tasked with playing minor roles, every episode is well done and takes you deeper down the rabbit hole of idol worship.

If American Gods hasn’t made your must watch list yet then get on it. If you don’t have Starz, this show will justify having it for its short season run. Filled with plenty of sex and violence to satisfy the avid HBO viewer, American Gods offers a concept that tickles the mind and has you ponder the many ways in which the show can play with the concept of worship and how it will manifest. So before you go all “winter is coming” on your co-workers, take these few weeks before your timelines are flooded with G.O.T. spoilers and theories and catch up on a worthy competitor in American Gods. You will start questioning what you devote your energy to and the power belief and faith may have.
