You Have Reached Your Destination by Louise Marburg: Book Review
Everyone has a story to tell. And authors are the ones who we can rely on to provide stories to relate to or challenge our existing way of thinking. Luckily for those with limited reading time, Louise Marburg is releasing a new collection of short stories for us to enjoy. You Have Reached Your Destination is a collection of stories focused on women who are forced to confront the significant moments in their lives. Characters struggle with infertility, menopause, workplace harassment, past martial abuse, or loss of a loved one. Even though these are women’s issues, I promise that Marburg’s writing style and approach with dark humor has something for all genders to enjoy.
Fans of Marburg are already familiar with her writing style. Those who aren’t are surely in for a treat with You Have Reached Your Destination. She is talented in creating a wide range of main characters with different personalities and backgrounds. I could easily distinguish one character from the next. And I loved getting to know all 12 of them.
I won’t summarize each story, but here were my favorites among the collection:
- “Even-Steven”
- “Love is Not Enough”
- “Outrageous”
- “June”
- “Dance, Rocket”
- “Next of Kin”
Louise Marburg joins us for a Cantina Conversation to talk about what she enjoyed most about putting together this collection and the newest project on her list. Listen for an upcoming episode of The Nerd Cantina Show podcast and preorder You Have Reached Your Destination, available November 10.
