Steve’s Netflix Quick Hits

Here are some of my recent watches and some of my favorites currently streaming on Netflix. Some you may have seen or heard of them, but if any of them have not made it on your “My List” yet then read through and give some a chance and save your friends from that monthly “comment with Netflix shows I should watch” facebook post.

Behind The Curve:  Welcome to the idiot parade.  Did that offend you? If so, and you belong to the flat earther club then oh well.  Behind The Curve is a light hearted documentary on the strange lives of people leading the flat earth movement.  It is done in a way that gives them a platform to expose themselves rather than seeking out to make fun.  It is only a matter of time when dealing with a flat earther before they expose themselves for the conspiracy loving, minorly deranged, wanna be scientist that they are.  Behind The Curve merely gives them a platform to plead their case, while offering science based fact along side it.  You will find yourself more feeling sorry for their misguidedness rather than having a good laugh at their ignorance.  Science offers ways to talk with those that believe in these conspiracies so adamantly, and you may find that helpful.  Either way Behind The Curve is a good documentary exposing a movement that has grown in momentum as our education system continues to let us down.

Big Mouth: This raunchy coming of age comedy is in its third season on Netflix tackling topics most people choose to ignore or forget about. How fast we forget about the raging hormoned teenager we once were. The awkwardness, the embarrassment, the insecurities we all felt and knew nothing of how to handle. Nick Kroll and John Mulaney do a fantastic job of bringing all these childhood memories rushing back in a hilarious fashion. With other co stars such as Fred Armisen, Maya Rudolph, Jordan Peele, and Jenny Slate, Big Mouth packs one of the wittiest casts tackling hilarious new subject matter in animated form. Not for the viewing of children by any means, so once the kids go down put on a show that will have you laughing out loud and dreading the days of their first period or wet dream.

Sherlock: Already a widely popular show across the pond, boasting two huge stars no matter where you are from, Sherlock is often overlooked in the states merely for having the BBC tag attached to it. Sherlock stars Benedict Cumberbatch, also known as Benedryl Cabbagepatch, Bandicoot Thundersnatch, Beavermint Cumberbunch, or just Dr. Strange, who is absolutely fantastic in this show. Along side Martin Freeman as Watson, Sherlock takes you down the literary path of Sherlock in a modern day setting. With episodes the length of some movies, Sherlock is not necessarily binge-able, but with a continuing theme each episode feels like sequel. Aside from the highly intelligent mysteries, Sherlock hosts one of the greatest villains to hit the small screen, Jim Moriarty, played spectacularly by Andrew Scott. There are only 3 episodes in each season with a total of 4 seasons, but with the episode length there is plenty of screen time. Deciding to watch this show is sheer elementary.

The Bill Murray Stories is a great documentary of the myth that has become Bill Murray. For those that may not know, Bill Murray is known for behaving in an abnormally normal fashion among fans. The internet had become a place where people often shared their most random interactions with Murray. The Bill Murray Stories are those internet myths documented with actual interviews and accounts of the strange life of non-film Murray. It is hilariously amazing to see the lifestyle this man chooses to live and somewhat restores a bit of your faith in the famous and fortunate.

Other notables that we have reviewed already are The Umbrella Academy, Slobby’s World, Happy!, Travelers, and Lost in Space. I hope this helps if your Netflix has become a bit stale. Leave a comment below and let us know if it did.
