Miracle Workers: A Nerd Cantina Review

Miracle Workers

Miracle Workers is a new comedy on TBS that has a morbidly fun concept. What if God was just done with Earth and wanted to shut it down? With Earth being run more as a corporate factory by higher beings pulling all the strings. There are many people who would “lose their jobs” running Heaven Inc., so a few employees have placed a wager with God. If they can answer an impossible prayer, God will spare the Earth. This premise sets up tons of jokes on how the world works and the steps the “angels” will go to keep their jobs.

God, the CEO of Earth, is played by none other than Steve Buscemi. This alone is comedic gold. The way he portrays the creator of all things is sort of a benevolently inept Michael Scott from The Office. Miracle Workers also has another huge star in Daniel Radcliffe (Craig). He plays the head of the Answered Prayers division who doesn’t get many visitors there. Having these major stars gives Miracle Workers some major credibility seeing they play their characters great. Karan Soni (Sanjay), most notable as the cab driver in the Deadpool movies, takes his awkward comedy and brings it to the role of an ass kissing executive at Heaven Inc., adding another comedic dynamic to a show chalked full of them. Miracle Workers has a fun cast that portrays the inner workings of Heaven Inc. in a seriously light hearted manner which makes this such a fun show to watch.

Miracle Workers is currently airing its fifth episode on TBS Tuesdays at 10:30/9:30c. The first season has only two episodes left but I can see this being green lit for a longer second season. We imagine the budget needed to secure the two main actors dictated a very short first season. The smart comedy mixed with an innovative premise and a good cast makes Miracle Workers one of the best new comedies out right now. Give this show a shot if you haven’t already and come let us know what you think. You can leave a comment on the article or you can leave us a voicemail on The Nerd Cantina line at (815) 905-1414.

I started this site because I love to share my opinion on many nerd subjects and found that often times I am sought out by friends to give my perspective. I started writing movie reviews and found it very therapeutic to put my thoughts out there. With some encouragement from my brother, The Nerd Cantina was born.
