Homecoming: A Spoiler Free Review

Homecoming is the extremely suspenseful new show on Amazon Prime Video from the creative mind of Sam Esmail who brought you Mr. Robot.  Using unique frame formats and filters with vintage suspense, Esmail delivers another mindbender.  He jams an hour long network drama into a 30 minute format that delivers the suspense and builds on it early.  Esmail's vision coupled with good acting makes Homecoming another success.

With a name like Julia Roberts (Heidi Bergman) starring and producing this show it is hard to imagine it not being of quality.  Julia plays the lead role as a social worker in a private government sponsored program.  Her character is complex and does a great job in her portrayal.  Bobby Cannavale (Colin Belfast) and Stephan James (Walter Cruz) add support playing the corporate boss and a returning soldier respectively.  They give great performances that really add to the quality of this show.  Other notable performances are given by veterans Shea Whigham (Thomas Carrasco) and Marianne Jean-Baptiste (Gloria Morisseau).  Shea plays a desk ridden government official and Marianne plays Stephan's mother.  This cast couple with Esmail's unique vision make for a quality new show.  The 30 minute format is great if you don't feel you have time to lock yourself to a couch for an hour.  Available in 4K, Homecoming is a great show to binge watch as the winter cold approaches and cuffing season lumes.
