Avengers: Infinity War Spoiler Free Review

I literally walked out of the theatre 32 minutes ago and the whole time I have been trying to scan my memory for let downs, disappointments, plot holes, or poor direction choices and I have yet to think of any. I don’t know if all the cool has blinded me from the suck, but I can’t think of any. I’m sure with multiple viewings, which I will be doing, I could possibly find some of those things, but I really don’t think I will find many. I think if others have any of those feeling it is due to the constant stream of photos from sets and speculation that arises from them that leads an audience to have certain expectations that they should not have carried into the theatre with them anyway. I am also taking into consideration that this is only half of the entire Infinity War story, so a little leeway is given. My opinion might change once the full story is told. Now I’m sure many that know me will take my harsh critiques on the DCEU and the latest Star Wars movie (TLJ) and just call me a Marvel fan boy. To that I say, “Get over it.”. I applaud Marvel and Disney for crafting what no other studio has been able to do. Not since Harry Potter or LOTR has a franchise taken widely acclaimed source material and transferred it to film so well. I give Marvel more credit given they have 70 plus years of source material to sift through, as where the Potter series and Tolkien had laid out for them a defined story, not a complex universe. Starting with Iron Man, they started laying ground work for this cinematic universe that would rival a modern-day Tolkien and inevitably lead us to one of the largest scale storylines in Infinity War.
From start to finish you are captivated by a villain worthy of earth’s mightiest heroes. The tone is set from the beginning and it doesn’t let up. Even with multiple storylines taking place with multiple lead characters you are never lead off course. Josh Brolin does a phenomenal job giving this villain the depth needed to carry a story for what in the end will be 2 movies. The other actors provide the same Marvel standard that we’ve come to know and love. Are all the Marvel movies flawless and free from judgment? By all means no. However, I truly feel everyone brought their best to the table for such a special occasion. You can tell that these actors know and respect the amount of effort that hundreds, if not thousands, of people put in over the last decade to be able to bring such an epic concept into fruition and it shows on film. By having such a wide variety of complex characters and origin stories to prelude this film, each viewer can enjoy this movie for their own reasons. They take your favorite characters and throw them in a Yahtzee cup, shake it all about, and roll a full house of parallel story lines that have you loving the interactions that, until now, you would have never imagined seeing on film.
This movie points you in the direction Marvel want its future to go in and pulls you along like gravity. At times you relax and let it just take you with, and the times you don’t want to go you have no choice. The MCU has its own inertia and there is no fighting it. But why try? There has recently been a buzz that people might be getting tired of the super hero genre and I can understand that. If you fall into that group there is no shortage of other films for you to enjoy. I’m sure someone will be driving furiously fast in a film again soon so don’t you fret. I however hope the train never stops. Will I expect every Marvel movie to make a billion dollars, of course not. As a fan that has collected many of the comics these movies are based on, I am truly grateful to those involved for providing another medium for such imaginative characters and storytelling to live and will not base their success solely on whether they can hold pop cultures short attention span. This movie just started putting the icing on an eighteen-layer cake and asked us if we wanted to lick the mixer beaters. And just like my ten year old self, I am eating it all up with anticipation as to how the entire cake will finally taste when finished. Go see this movie on the biggest screen you can. Take your family and enjoy this feast of a movie. Unlike a normal feast though, you are going to leave satisfied yet craving the next meal as soon as you leave. The countdown until part two has officially started.
